Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery of CHA Bundang Medical Center was the first in Korea to introduce many highly sophisticated surgical techniques including mini-open laser surgery to treat otitis media with cholesteatoma, powered intracapsular tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy(PITA), flexible integration of laser tympanostomy and ventilation tube insertion under topical anesthesia(FITT), and balloon sinuplasty(BSP). Otology – Leader in Minimally Invasive Laser Surgery and Hearing Loss Surgery
Laser is used for surgery of chronic otitis media and cholesteatoma, which is a safe surgical method to preserve auditory acuity and minimize revision operation. FITT and PITA for pediatric patients with otitis media help reduce pain and discomfort of general anesthesia. Mapping and real ear measurement (REM) is done daily for patients with hearing loss and tinnitus at Hearing Aid Clinic.
Rhinology – Education Program on Minimally Invasive Rhino Surgery
The rhinoplasty surgery is performed to enhance the aesthetic and functional features of the nose. The staff applies Drug-Induced Sleep Endoscopy (DISE), polysomnography, and Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) to diagnose snoring in adult patients and if necessary, less painful snoring surgery and Trans-Oral Robot Surgery (TORS) are provided. Polysomnography and PITA help children with sleep apnea grow healthier. BSP is deployed for some children and adolescent patients and pregnant women, when surgery of chronic sinusitis is impractical.
