Rapid and Accurate Analysis of Imaging and Interventional Radiology

More Application of Interventional Radiology Directly Involved in Patient Treatment

The development of the state-of-the-art science and technology has led to remarkable advances in medicine, particularly in radiology. As a result, a variety of examination methods including CT and MRI, as well as novel non-invasive treatments are in the pipeline. In this context, a therapeutic role of radiology is increasingly taking a large part in the medicine in addition to the conventional role of imaging diagnosis. The medical specialists in the Department of Radiology used to simply identify diseases based on images and inform clinical physicians of the location and condition of organs or tissues in question. However, they are now directly engaged in treatments through interventional radiology based on their expertise on imaging and stereoscopic anatomical knowledge. The medical field now plays an active role in collaboration with other departments for patient care.

Imaging Diagnosis and Tailored Procedure for Individual Specialties

The Department of Radiology of CHA Bundang Medical Center is subdivided into neuroradiology, abdominal radiology, thoracic radiology, musculoskeletal radiology, genitourinary radiology, pediatric radiology, breast and thyroid radiology and interventional radiology. Medical staff provide imaging diagnosis and tailored procedures for individual specialties.

The faculty members at the department read images from radiography, ultrasonography, CT and MRI and send them to relevant outpatient departments. This process plays an integral role in patient diagnosis. Furthermore, interventional radiologic treatments are provided for patients, such as transcatheter embolization, stent or balloon angioplasty to treat stenosis, radiofrequency ablation and myoma treatment using MR-guided focused ultrasound that is the latest technique.

Larger Role of Imaging Diagnosis in the Field of Stem Cell Research

The staff members of the department will continue to introduce the state-of-the-art equipment to ensure rapid exams, accurate diagnosis and treatment while developing and accumulating professional knowhow for patient care. Moving forward, the team will apply the radiology in identifying the result of stem cell research, the major research field of CHA Bundang Medical Center, in a larger scale.
